About Genesis War

It is free with a gacha and loot boxes, wants about 20 GB of storage, and its App Store record from June to September is crashes, a halved daily upgrade cap and log-in failures.

Genesis War Review: A Grid-Tactics Gacha That Crashes More Than It Fights

The War of Genesis on a Grid, With 69 Heroes and Machina Bosses

The source is older than most of its players: The War of Genesis was Softmax's Korean strategy RPG from 1995, and Genesis War, developed by Meerkat Games and serviced by LINE Games, retells its Antaria — the Geysir Empire's conquest, Princess Iyolin's fight to reclaim Pandragon — as a character-collecting RPG. Battles are turn-based on a grid, with elemental advantage and terrain deciding hits, skill cinematics for the big moves and colossal Machina as boss fights; around the campaign sit boss raids, high-difficulty stages and PvP. Sixty-nine heroes were in the launch roster. Korea got it in 2024; Canada, Australia and Indonesia soft-launched it two weeks before the April 28, 2026 global release on Google Play, the App Store and Google Play Games on PC, with over 500,000 pre-registrations, per Pocket Gamer's Stephen Gregson-Wood. A collaboration with the Webtoon series Doom Breaker in June brought new players — and their reviews.

Crashes on the Lowest Settings, Gear That Vanishes, a Daily Cap Cut From 10 to 4

The App Store's most-voted reviews from late June and July 2026 are a single complaint in different words: the game crashes — on the lowest graphics, mid-level, within three minutes of launch, with a stutter before each crash that a July 7 reviewer reads as an optimisation problem. A July 1 review could not hold a connection beside the router. Version 2.4.8 in August did not close the file: an August 19 review loses equipped gear every time the app closes, a September 3 one crashes at the end of the download, a September 19 one cannot log in. Google Play's most-voted review, April 29 with 38 votes, measured 20.42 GB of storage, translation errors and repetitive animations; a 21-vote review asks auto-battle to remember its setting. The listing's floor is Android 11, 6 GB of RAM and 7 GB free; iOS 15.

Gacha, Loot Boxes, Packs to $129.99 — and the Upgrade Cap Change

Apple flags Loot Boxes; Google Play prices items from $0.49 to $129.99, and the App Store's top ten run from a $1.99 Core Pack through Welcome to Antaria at $9.99 and Welcome 1+2 at $24.99 to a Black Prince Celebration pack at $69.99. The review that explains the economy is a June 26 one-star: soul stones, the per-character upgrade material, dropped from ten a day to four, turning a four-month climb to a maxed hero into a spender's climb. An August 30 Play review pays a monthly subscription and cannot claim it because a mission freezes. A July 4 five-star's counterpoint: play the stories, ignore the gacha, expect a repetitive post-game. Google's card lists Personal info, Financial info and Device IDs collected. Rated Teen and 13+. Five months in: 100,000-plus installs and 2,410 Play reviews at 3.3, 23 App Store ratings at 3.0. Prices are regional.

Pros

  • Grid tactics with elemental and terrain advantages from a 1995 Korean series
  • 69 heroes at launch, Machina boss fights and skill cinematics
  • Main and side stories that a July 2026 reviewer rates above the gacha
  • Free on iOS, Android and PC via Google Play Games with one account
  • Auto-saves mid-level, so crashes resume where they cut off

Cons

  • Crashes on the lowest settings from June to September 2026, per App Store reviews
  • Daily soul-stone cap cut from ten to four, per a June review
  • About 20 GB of storage, translation errors and repeated animations, per the most-voted Play review
  • Gear removed on every close and log-in failures on version 2.4.8

Verdict

A 5.2: a real tactics RPG with a 30-year-old pedigree, undermined by four months of crash reports and a June change that halved the free path to a maxed hero. Take it if you want Fire Emblem-style grid battles with a story on PC or a phone that can hold it, and you will ignore the gacha. Skip it if you play on an older phone, if 20 GB is too much, or if a daily cap of four upgrade stones tells you where the game wants your money.

Gameplay6Real grid tactics under the gacha; forced heroes and a repetitive post-game wear it down.
Controls6Tap-to-move on a grid with auto-battle that forgets its own setting, per an April review.
Replay value5Raids, PvP and a Webtoon collaboration — behind a daily upgrade cap of four stones.
Graphics & sound7Skill cinematics and Machina bosses that cost 20 GB and, per reviews, stability.
Monetisation3Loot boxes, packs to $129.99, a subscription and a halved free-upgrade rate.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can you play Genesis War offline?

No. It is a live gacha RPG on LINE Games' servers — a July 2026 reviewer could not stay connected beside a router — with raids, PvP, collaboration events and a daily cap that reset online. The store pages describe no offline mode, and the download itself runs to about 20 GB per an April review.

2

Is Genesis War pay to win?

The reviews say it became more so: a June 2026 change cut the daily soul-stone cap from ten to four, which one reviewer calculates turns a four-month free climb into a paid one. Apple flags loot boxes, Google Play lists items to $129.99, the App Store sells packs to $69.99, and there is a monthly subscription. A July five-star's advice is to play the story and ignore the gacha. Prices vary by region.

3

What phone do you need for Genesis War?

More than the store badge says: Google Play lists Android 9, but the listing's own requirements are Android 11, 6 GB of RAM and at least 7 GB free, and an April 2026 reviewer measured 20.42 GB installed. iOS needs 15 or newer, and App Store reviews from June to September report crashes even on the lowest graphics setting. PC via Google Play Games is the stable alternative.

4

Can you play Genesis War with friends?

Partly. Boss raids and PvP are the shared modes, and one account runs on phone and PC through Google Play Games. There is no co-op campaign — the story is single-player on a grid — and the store pages do not describe guilds in detail. Google's data-safety card lists Messages shared, so an in-game chat exists.

5

How much time does Genesis War take each day?

The daily cap sets the rhythm: four soul stones a day per character since June 2026, plus raids and events on a reset. Auto-battle covers the campaign grind, though an April reviewer notes it forgets its setting between stages. Expect a daily check-in of twenty to forty minutes, longer during a collaboration event, and months to max a hero without paying.
