Zen Word is a letter-wheel puzzle from Singapore's Oakever Games: swipe letters to fill about 20 empty word slots per level, with no crossing grid and only each word's length as a clue. Levels sit over nature photographs, with a new theme every 20-level chapter, and Google Play counts over 6,000 puzzles that play offline. The catch is advertising: past the opening chapters, players report an ad after nearly every level unless they pay $4.99.

Each board pairs a letter wheel with columns of empty slots; swipe a word and it drops in automatically. Unlike Wordscapes, where answers cross in a grid and every find reveals letters of its neighbours, Oakever's words sit in separate rows, so the last few must be recalled, not deduced. The developer puts the average at 20 words a level, and the store screenshots show level 40 asking for 15, from CAR to LIBERAL. Valid words outside the board count as Extra Words, worth one coin each, though abbreviations and personal names are excluded. The word list is the weak spot in 2026 Play reviews: common words rejected, plurals such as cuts beside cut, and boards that repeat at higher levels.
Three props do the hinting. The lightbulb reveals one letter, Fireworks light up five, and a Paper Plane fires automatically at the start of a level to show a word's first letter; coins from levels, events and rewarded videos pay for the first two. Oakever's help center also lists side modes: a Daily Challenge of three levels that waters a virtual plant, Brain Master's ten levels that reset at midnight, ButterflyScapes collections, twelve Zen Tournament seasons a year, and Koi Fish Race, five levels against four players with similar progress. Tournaments and races need a connection. Long-time players on Google Play say these pop-ups, streaks and timers now crowd the slow pace the name promises, and several September 2026 reviews object to a new voice that praises each correct word.
Google Play labels the game Contains ads, and its Data safety form lists installed apps and approximate location among data shared for advertising. During play, Google Play reviews from 2024 to October 2026 describe banners at first, then an interstitial after almost every level, some running past a minute. The help center says videos can be skipped after five seconds. On the US App Store, Remove Ads Forever costs $4.99, but it covers only interstitials and banners: rewarded videos stay, and a July 2026 buyer still saw prompts for the $2.99 Piggy Bank. Word Club, at $4.99 a week, $12.99 a month or $49.99 a year, adds two daily spins, five Paper Planes and 40% off items, and auto-renews unless cancelled in the store at least a day before the period ends. Oakever's terms make both non-refundable. Prices are US and may change.

The 6.9 rewards a harder take on the letter wheel and docks it for the advertising around it. Uncrossed rows, about 20 words a board and over 6,000 offline puzzles make a stiffer vocabulary test than Wordscapes, and $4.99 once on the US App Store clears the interstitials. Take it for a long solo word game if you will pay that fee. Skip it if an ad after each level is a dealbreaker and you will not pay, or if you want matches against friends, where Words With Friends fits better.

Yes, regular levels play without Wi-Fi, and Google Play tags the game Offline. Zen Tournament and Koi Fish Race need a connection, and so does saving progress: Oakever's help center says progress stays on the device unless you sign in with Facebook or, on iPhone, Apple, and an uninstall before syncing loses it for good.
$4.99 once on the US App Store, for Remove Ads Forever. It removes interstitials between levels and the banner, not rewarded videos. Word Club costs $4.99 a week, $12.99 a month or $49.99 a year and adds two daily spins, five Paper Planes and 40% off items. Oakever's terms make lifetime and subscription purchases non-refundable. Prices vary by region and may change.
Android 8.0 or newer, iPhone and iPad on iOS 15, Macs with an M1 chip or later, Apple Vision Pro, and Windows PCs through Google Play's PC version. Expect about 279 MB on Android and 410 MB on iPhone. Google Play rates it Everyone and Apple 13+, yet Oakever's privacy policy bars US players under 13 and EU and UK players under 16. Apple's privacy label lists identifiers and usage data used for tracking.
Only loosely. Google Play lists it as single player, but you can join a team, earning 30 coins the first time, or create one for 100 coins, and teammates can tap Help to send each other hints. Koi Fish Race pits you against four players at similar progress. For a direct match against a friend, Words With Friends offers multiplayer games and Smart Match.
Google Play lists over 6,000 puzzles, grouped into chapters of 20 levels with about 20 words each. Daily extras add three Daily Challenge levels and Brain Master's ten, which reset at midnight. Play reviewers describe progress past level 10,000, but some report boards repeating at higher levels.
