About Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy

Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is Square Enix's 3v3 boss-race brawler — Cloud, Lightning, Terra and the Warrior of Light in modern-day Tokyo, two teams fighting the same monsters and racing to kill the boss first — free on iOS and Android since March 23, 2026, with gacha pulls for ability cards, MogPay packs from $1.49 to $64.99 and ads. It rates 4.4 on the App Store and 3.7 on Google Play. Fans call the combat solid; the most-voted Play review calls the controls abysmal and the ability text too vague to build around.

Dissidia Duellum Review: A Boss Race With Cloud and Terra, Built on a Card Gacha

Two Teams, One Boss, and Whoever Kills It First Wins

The format is the unusual part: two teams of three drop into the same arena, fight the same waves of monsters, purify crystals for power, and race to bring down the boss before the other side does — you can attack the opposing team, but a March 26, 2026 three-star's complaint is that most players treat it as straight PvP and ignore the race. Characters fill Melee, Ranged, Agile or Support roles — and the strategy lives in loadouts of ability cards with newly commissioned illustrations, pulled from the gacha. The story moves the cast into Tokyo with full Japanese voice acting, cel-shaded models and chat-messenger episodes between them. A July 31 four-star who came for Tidus found it surprisingly addicting once the clash of playstyles clicked; a May 25 four-star argues it is better balanced than the complaints suggest; a March 26 five-star says a controller makes it feel like a mainline Dissidia.

Abysmal Controls, One Stage, Vague Cards — and a Gacha Fans Call Predatory

The most-voted Play review, an April 11 one-star with 56 votes, is a design critique: the controls are abysmal, every battle feels the same because there is essentially one stage type, and the game tries to be competitive while describing abilities with words like greatly and low, so no one can tell what is strong. A June 1 four-star finds the solo challenges almost impossible to grind. Then the gacha: a May 29 four-star says the team play works and the gacha is not great, an April 23 three-star calls the game predatory while mourning Opera Omnia's shutdown, and a September 17 one-star asks Square Enix to stop making gacha games it discontinues after a couple of years. The counterpoint is recent: a September 16 Play five-star finds the pulls generous, with a free choice of first character and ability rerolls until you get the one you want.

MogPay Packs to $64.99, Season Bonuses, Loot Boxes and Ads

The shop is priced in odd increments: MogPay Packs A through E at $1.49, $6.59, $14.49, $43.49 and $64.99, Season Bonus Mega, Giga and Stellar Packs at $6.59, $14.49 and $64.99, and a one-time Starter Pack at $1.49; Google Play's range is $1.49 to $64.99 with random items declared, Apple flags Loot Boxes, and both stores show advertising. Support is handled by NHN PlayArt, the co-developer. Google's card lists personal info, app activity and two other types collected, with device IDs shared; Apple lists identifiers linked to you. The iOS download is 247 MB before an in-app data download that Square Enix recommends on Wi-Fi; floors are iOS 15 and Android 10, in four languages, rated Teen and 13+. Six months in it shows 500,000-plus installs and 13,900 reviews at 3.7 on Play, 2,424 App Store ratings at 4.4. Prices are regional.

Pros

  • A boss-race format no other mobile brawler uses, with real team roles
  • Cloud, Lightning, Terra, Tidus and the Warrior of Light, cel-shaded and voiced
  • Free first-character choice and ability rerolls, per a September five-star
  • Feels like a mainline Dissidia on a controller, say two reviews
  • 247 MB to start, on iOS 15 or Android 10

Cons

  • Controls the 56-vote review calls abysmal, and one stage type
  • Ability cards described as greatly and low — too vague to build around
  • A gacha fans call predatory, with Opera Omnia's shutdown in mind
  • Ads, loot boxes and $64.99 packs, plus teammates who ignore the race

Verdict

A 5.5: a clever team format wearing Final Fantasy's most famous faces, undercut by touch controls its own top review calls abysmal, one arena, and a card gacha that fans of the last Dissidia mobile game recognise with dread. Take it if you have a controller, two friends and no expectation of permanence. Skip it if you want single-player Final Fantasy, or if you were burned when Opera Omnia closed.

Gameplay6The race-the-boss idea is good; one stage type and players who skip the race flatten it.
Controls5Abysmal on touch to the top review, mainline-quality on a pad to two others.
Replay value6Ranked matches, a growing roster and seasons, shadowed by fans predicting a shutdown.
Graphics & sound8Cel-shaded Final Fantasy heroes in Tokyo with Japanese voices and new card art.
Monetisation4Loot-box cards, ads, $64.99 packs — generous early, predatory later, by the reviews' timeline.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can you play Dissidia Duellum offline?

No. Every match is a real-time 3v3 against another team on Square Enix's servers, the gacha and season shop are online, and the app downloads its data after install. There is no offline mode described; solo challenges exist but still need a connection. Update over Wi-Fi, as the patch notes advise.

2

Is Dissidia Duellum pay to win?

Fans split. A September 2026 five-star finds the pulls generous and lets you reroll abilities free; April and May reviews call the gacha not great and the game predatory. Power comes from ability cards pulled from loot boxes, with MogPay packs at $1.49 to $64.99 and season bonus packs on top. Prices vary by region.

3

What phone do you need for Dissidia Duellum?

iOS 15 or newer, or Android 10 or newer, with the 247 MB download followed by a larger in-app data download over Wi-Fi. No reviewer complains about performance; the complaints are controls, and two reviews say a controller transforms the game, so pair one if you have it.

4

Can you play Dissidia Duellum with friends?

Yes — it is 3v3, and a full squad of friends is the best way to play a format that random teammates misread as pure PvP, per a March 2026 review. Cross-play between iOS and Android is standard for Square Enix's mobile titles; the listing shows one shared player base.

5

How long does Dissidia Duellum take?

Matches are a few minutes; the story episodes and chat-messenger scenes add a few hours, and ranked seasons give the long game. A June 2026 four-star found the solo challenges near-impossible to grind, so the daily loop is PvP. How long the game itself lasts is the reviews' open question — a March three-star gives it under a year.
