Jagex Is Building a Fourth RuneScape MMO in Unreal Engine

The officially licensed Tetris, now run by Playstudios: marathon, timed line targets, boss battles against a clock and a retro green mode with combo counters. It is free with advertising, and removing the adverts is sold in thirty-day blocks rather than permanently. Its Google Play average is 4.0 from 464,000 reviews, against 4.5 on the App Store.
Specs come from the official store listings and were last checked on 2026-09-07. Developers change pricing and requirements — check the store page before installing.
The important part passes: pieces fall, rotate and lock the way the licensed game should, hold and next-piece previews are present, and line clears register cleanly. Modes stack around it — a marathon that runs until the stack tops out, timed targets such as clearing twenty-five lines in three minutes fifteen, boss battles that demand a hundred lines against a thirty-second clock, and a retro mode in green monochrome that counts combos and posts a new best at 4,283. That variety is what a modern licence is expected to add.
Nothing here levels up in a meaningful sense: you pick a mode, you play it, and the score goes into a leaderboard. That is faithful to what the game is, and it also means the app has to work harder to keep anyone opening it — hence the events, the daily targets and the coin economy layered over a game that historically needed none of them. The retro mode is the most interesting addition, because it is the version most people over thirty actually remember playing.
This is the detail worth knowing before installing: the App Store lists Ad-free for 30 Days at $2.99 and $3.99, alongside coin packs from $1.99 to $9.99. Paying does not permanently remove advertising — it removes it for a month. Google Play carries an advertising badge and shows 4.0 stars from 464,000 reviews on 50 million installs, against 4.5 from 455,000 App Store ratings. The half-point gap and the 4.0 average are both unusual for a game with this pedigree, and the advert model explains most of it.

The blocks fall correctly and the modes are a reasonable modern spread, so as Tetris it works. What lets it down is the business around it: advertising in a game this old, removal rented by the month rather than bought outright, and a 4.0 Android average that says players noticed. Play it free, offline, and the problem largely disappears.

Single-player modes generally run without a connection, and the adverts cannot load offline, which is the cheapest way to avoid them. Events, leaderboards and daily targets need the internet, and scores sync when you reconnect.
Coin packs from $1.99 to $9.99 and advert removal for thirty days at $2.99 or $3.99. The thirty-day framing is the part to notice: this is a subscription to not see adverts rather than a one-off purchase of a clean game.
361.4 MB and iOS 15 or later — heavy for falling blocks, and accounted for by the modes, events and advertising libraries rather than by the game. It runs on any current phone without effort.
Competition is through leaderboards and timed events rather than live head-to-head play in this app. Anyone wanting real-time battles against other people is better served by the separate battle-royale style Tetris titles that have come and gone over the years.
A timed mode runs its stated three minutes or thirty seconds; a marathon lasts until you lose, which can be a minute or half an hour. It is the most interruptible game imaginable, and always has been.
