About Shell: Fuel, Charge & More

Shell's US app puts Shell Fuel Rewards, mobile payment and Shell Recharge EV charging behind one account. Since Shell folded the standalone Fuel Rewards app into it in 2026, it is the only place to track status, which pays 3¢, 5¢ or 10¢ a gallon depending on fills per quarter. The weak point is sign-in: Google Play users rate it 2.9, against 4.8 on the App Store.

Shell App Review: Real 10¢ Savings, Behind a Sign-In That Often Fails

Silver 3¢, Gold 5¢, Platinum 10¢: The Fill Math Behind the Discount

Fuel Rewards costs nothing, and new sign-ups in the app are currently enrolled automatically. Status is earned per calendar quarter: a fill counts only at 10 gallons or more, six fills buy Gold at 5¢ a gallon for the next quarter, and twelve buy Platinum at 10¢; Silver members get 3¢. Shell V-Power NiTRO+ counts as two fills, so six premium fill-ups reach Platinum. New members also get one-time rewards of 10¢, 20¢ and 30¢ a gallon on their first three fills, limited to 20 gallons each and redeemable within 60 days. The tier is checked in the first week of each quarter, and the fill counter can take up to five business days to update. US terms as of October 2026; they may change.

Pay at the Pump: Pump Number, PIN, and a $75 Ceiling

Mobile payment works only at participating stations, which the in-app station locator marks. At the pump you tap Pay, enter the pump number and confirm with a PIN or biometrics; inside, the app shows a QR code for the register. Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, PayPal and Shell eGift cards are accepted, and Shell S Pay, which draws from a US checking account, adds 10¢ a gallon on every fill. Two rules catch people out. Stop pumping before the offer's gallon limit and the remaining discounted gallons are forfeited. Purchases of $75 or more have to be paid inside.

The Fuel Rewards App Is Gone, and Sign-In Became the Bottleneck

Shell's migration FAQ is blunt: sign in with your Fuel Rewards email and password, and do not delete that account first, or your balance, progress and linked card will not transfer. Of the 150 newest English reviews on Google Play, posted 10 to 30 September 2026, 100 gave one star and 17 gave five; 51 of the one-star reviews describe a verification code that never arrives, a rejected password or a session that ends seconds after sign-in. Eight mention eGift cards, several with balances that vanished. Others miss the old map: prices now sit in a list under the map rather than on the pins, while GasBuddy shows community-reported prices for every brand.

Shell Recharge Rewards: Why the $6.95 Gold Tier Never Wins

EV mode covers Shell Recharge and its roaming partners, listing speeds up to 400 kW and CCS, NACS or CHAdeMO connectors per site. Shell Recharge Rewards has a free Silver tier at 1¢ off per kWh, Gold at $6.95 a month for 5¢ and Platinum at $13.95 for 10¢, before tax. Against Silver, Gold needs about 174 kWh a month to pay off and Platinum 155 kWh, so below 155 kWh Silver is cheapest and above it Platinum is. Discounts apply only when you start and pay in the app at participating Shell Recharge stations. Plans renew monthly and must be cancelled 48 hours ahead; fees are not refunded. US prices as of October 2026; they may change.

Pros

  • Fuel Rewards is free and reaches 10¢ a gallon at 12 fills a quarter
  • Shell V-Power NiTRO+ fill-ups count double toward Gold and Platinum status
  • Shell S Pay links a checking account and adds 10¢ a gallon
  • Fuel rewards, mobile pay and Shell Recharge charging share one account
  • Free Silver EV tier takes 1¢ per kWh off with no monthly fee
  • Google Play's Data safety section offers a data deletion request

Cons

  • 100 of the 150 newest Play reviews gave one star, many over sign-in
  • Station map pins show no prices; you scroll a list instead
  • Apple's privacy label lists location and financial info among tracking data
  • The $6.95 Gold EV plan is never the cheapest option at any usage

Verdict

We scored it 6.5. The rewards math is real: twelve fills a quarter, or six premium ones, earn 10¢ a gallon, Shell S Pay adds 10¢ more, and EV drivers get a free Silver charging tier. Take it if you fill up at Shell about weekly and can live with a sign-in that recent Play reviews say fails often. Skip it if you want prices across brands, which GasBuddy covers, or if you charge under 155 kWh a month and are eyeing a paid EV plan.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is the Shell app free, and how much does Fuel Rewards save?

Yes. The app and Shell Fuel Rewards are free, and new sign-ups are enrolled automatically. Silver pays 3¢ a gallon, Gold 5¢ after six fills of 10 gallons or more in a quarter, and Platinum 10¢ after twelve. New members also get 10¢, 20¢ and 30¢ off their first three fills.

2

How do you pay at the pump with the Shell app?

Tap Pay, choose Pay at the pump, enter the pump number and confirm with a PIN or biometrics; savings apply automatically and a digital receipt follows. It works only at participating Shell stations. Purchases of $75 or more go inside, where the app shows a QR code for the cashier.

3

How much does Shell Recharge Rewards cost?

Silver is free with 1¢ off per kWh; Gold is $6.95 a month for 5¢ and Platinum $13.95 for 10¢, before tax, charged to a credit card saved in the app. By our math, Platinum pays off above 155 kWh a month and Gold is never the cheapest tier. US prices; they may change.

4

How do you cancel Shell Recharge Rewards or delete your Shell account?

Cancel under More > Membership > Manage Membership > Cancel Membership at least 48 hours before renewal; fees already charged are not refunded. Google Play's Data safety section says you can request data deletion. Moving from Fuel Rewards? Shell warns not to delete that account before signing in, or rewards will not transfer.

5

What is the best alternative to the Shell app for gas savings?

GasBuddy shows community-reported prices at every brand and turns 2,000 points into 10¢ a gallon; its dining rate, 40 points per dollar, matches Shell's 10¢ per $50 at partner restaurants. Exxon Mobil Rewards+ pays 3 base points a gallon on regular, worth 3¢, equal to Shell's Silver tier but below Platinum.
