About Squad Busters

Squad Busters drops ten players into one arena to collect gems, recruit a growing squad of characters from Supercell's other games, and survive to the end of a short timer. It is also closing: development ended on 30 October 2025, the last content update landed that December, and the servers are due to stop somewhere between the middle and the end of 2026.

Squad Busters Review: Good Game, Servers Ending in 2026

The Shutdown Comes First

Supercell announced that active development finished on 30 October 2025 with one final content update in December, and that servers would keep running until somewhere between the middle and the end of 2026 — no exact date given. The window to transfer in-game currency spent during 2025 into other Supercell games closed at the end of that year, so money put in now cannot be moved anywhere. Google Play still shows a live listing with 10 million installs and 4.2 stars from 728,000 reviews, and the last update recorded there is 8 December 2025. Everything below should be read against that.

Ten Players, One Timer, A Growing Squad

A match puts ten players in a shared arena with a countdown running in the corner and a placement shown beside it. Characters are recruited from chests as the match proceeds, and three of the same kind fuse into an evolved version with a new ability — the moment the game is built around. Squads become absurd quickly: a dozen barbarians, archers and chickens trailing behind you while another player tries to steal your gems. Battle mods rotate the rules between matches, so the same arena plays differently from one game to the next.

What It Cost and What It Costs Now

The install is 938.8 MB, Apple rates it 9+ for infrequent fantasy violence, and neither store carries an advertising badge. Ratings were good — 4.5 from 137,000 App Store ratings against 4.2 on Play — which makes the closure a business decision rather than a verdict from players: Supercell's own statement said the game did not reach the long-term quality bar the company holds itself to. Any purchase made now buys cosmetics and progress in a game with a stated end date and no transfer route left, which is the single reason for the monetisation score below.

Pros

  • Ten-player matches that finish in a few minutes
  • Three matching characters fuse into an evolved version
  • Battle mods change the rules between matches
  • No advertising badge on either store listing
  • Rated 4.5 on the App Store across 137,000 ratings

Cons

  • Development ended on 30 October 2025
  • Servers are due to close during 2026
  • The currency transfer window shut at the end of 2025
  • No new content has arrived since December 2025

Verdict

A genuinely inventive arena game — recruiting a squad mid-match and fusing three of a kind into something stronger is a good idea, executed brightly. It is also finished: development stopped in October 2025, the last content arrived that December, and the servers close during 2026. Play it free while it lasts if the idea appeals. Do not spend a penny on it, and do not start a long climb.

Gameplay7.5Collecting, fusing and running from other squads works well in short bursts.
Controls8.0One thumb steers the whole squad; abilities fire on their own.
Replay value2.5Announced shutdown during 2026 and no content added since December 2025.
Graphics & sound8.0Bright, chaotic and readable even with a dozen characters on screen.
Monetisation3.5Purchases buy progress in a game with a stated end and no transfer route.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can it be played offline?

No. Matches are live lobbies of ten players, so a connection is needed throughout. Once the servers close during 2026, the game will stop working altogether — there is no offline mode that would survive the shutdown.

2

Should you spend anything now?

No. Supercell has announced the end of the game, and the window for transferring spent currency into its other titles closed at the end of 2025. Anything bought today buys progress in a game with an announced closing date and no route to move that value elsewhere.

3

What does it need to run?

938.8 MB and iOS 12 or later on iPhone, which is modest for a game with ten players and dozens of characters on screen. It runs comfortably on older Android hardware too, so nothing about the technical side pushed it toward closure.

4

Can you play with friends?

Yes — parties queue into the same match, and playing against people you know is the best version of it, since the comedy of a stolen gem lands better when you can complain to someone afterwards. Events run on an automatic schedule now rather than being newly written.

5

How long is a match?

A few minutes, with a visible countdown, so it fits the same gaps as any short arena game. The relevant time question is different here: how long the servers stay up, and the answer is somewhere between the middle and the end of 2026.
