Cluckmech Oasis is the mobile port of Qi Yu's Steam roguelike tower defence — a top-down shooter where animal heroes escort a mobile base, placing more than 150 turret-like Cluckmechs anywhere and stacking 300-plus upgrades against waves of plant enemies — on iPhone, iPad and Mac since August 1, 2026, free to start with a $7.99 unlock and a $3.99 DLC. There is no Android version. Its 13 App Store ratings average 3.2, a number made by a launch week in which the unlock button did not work; the reviews that got in call it exactly what they wanted.

Cluckmech Oasis Review: A Steam Favourite's Roguelike TD on iPhone, Post-Launch

Escort the Base, Place Turrets Anywhere, Build a Run From 300 Upgrades

The design mixes three genres: a top-down twin-stick shooter for the hero you steer, a tower defence in which you place Cluckmechs — chicken-shaped and stranger turrets, more than 150 of them — freely on the map and even move the base itself, and a roguelike run structure where 300-plus upgrade options and turret synergies make each attempt a different build. Heroes play differently by design: one builds turret strongholds, one leads minions, one lays trap mazes, one charges a boss-piercing shot, with ten or more to unlock. Enemies are plants; maps are described as rich and witty, with hidden rooms an August 16 five-star found and could not work out how to open. The Steam original's pixel-art look of mole engineers, eagle commanders and a screaming chicken carries over. An August 22 five-star hopes it gets the attention it deserves; an August 10 one-star, blocked from buying, calls it so good, no joke, and warns others to wait until the unlock is fixed.

The Launch Week: A Buy Button That Timed Out, Then Crashes

The 3.2 average is an artefact of the first fortnight. An August 8 three-star found the game fun and the full-game purchase impossible — the loading gear spins, times out and returns to the purchase screen — and the August 10 one-star hit the same wall; version 1.0.9 fixed it by mid-month, and an August 15 five-star titled The other reviews didn't even look explains that the purchase now completes silently, without a confirmation screen, and shows up as extra characters unlocked in the roster. Version 1.0.11 on August 20 fixed a default-language bug and added a language switch. The complaint that remains is stability: a September 4 one-star can sometimes finish a full run and at other times crashes almost constantly. With 13 ratings there is no wider verdict yet.

The model is a demo and a purchase: the download is free, Unlock Full Game is $7.99, and a DLC pack — Assemble! Animal Pals — is $3.99, with no advertising and nothing else to buy. Apple's data card lists purchases, identifiers, diagnostics and other data linked to you, which is more than most paid ports declare. The build is 1.45 GB and runs on iOS 12 or later — one of the lowest floors on the store — on iPhone and iPad, and on Apple Silicon Macs from macOS 11. There is no Google Play listing, so Android players are limited to the Steam version. Rated 13+. Prices are regional. For a game whose PC edition costs more, $7.99 plus the DLC is the cheaper way in — provided the purchase goes through, which since August 15 it does.

A 7.0 with a caveat about evidence: a deep, well-regarded roguelike tower defence ported at a fair price, whose first fortnight on the App Store was spent refusing to take anyone's money and whose later weeks added crashes for at least one player. Take it if you liked the Steam game or want a build-heavy TD on an iPad. Skip it if you are on Android — there is no version — or if you want more than 13 ratings before spending $7.99.
